Cordella Press seeks to record and share the creative voices of women and nonbinary people from all walks of life, exploring the ways that our spirit and sense of self is engaged with our physical place and daily experiences. Our purpose is to encourage one another to know ourselves more deeply, to value the stories we have to tell, and to connect with a sense of feminine wisdom and community that has nourished women throughout history. We honor the diversity of spirituality, and recognize that the edification of one's spiritual life brings healing to our earth, to our families and communities, and to ourselves. We center marginalized voices and prioritize the work of BIPOC creatives.
Cordella Press was named after our founder’s grandmother, Cordella Fletcher, of Choctaw, Cherokee, Irish, and French descent (pictured here with her mother, Alice, in Oklahoma). Cordella is a variation of the name Cordelia, which comes from the French coeur de lion, or “lion’s heart.” Our logo of dandelions comes from the French dent de lion, or "lion's tooth." Both our name and our logo reference the divine feminine quality of fierce and abiding love and protection. Though she faced many hardships throughout her life, Cordella continually offered this fierce love, laughter, and open-hearted hospitality to everyone she met. In her memory, we humbly dedicate this initiative.
